"American Idol" Reboot: 5 Contestants to Watch Out For This Season

By Will Heffernan

Two years ago, American Idol announced it would be ending while crowning Trent Harmon as the, supposedly, last Idol winner.

Last night, American Idol returned to its new channel, ABC, to find a new vocal champion. Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan are the new judges on a mission to find the next Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood. Blended has a list of a few American Idol auditionees from Wednesday night's show who you should absolutely keep an eye out for this new season of Idol.

(1) Catie Turner

At age 17, Catie Turner has written one song that will sure relate to people. Turner performed her original song called "21st Century Machine," which is about how social media has affected Turner. Her original song will make people fall in love with her and she will definitely be one to watch this season.

A few years ago, a young girl performed the National Anthem at a game and it became viral, not because she was famous, but because it was awful, and some said it was the worst rendition of the anthem ever. You can say this girl had the biggest glow up on the show so far. Her audition 100% redeemed herself from the disastrous performance of the National Anthem.

(3) Noah Davis

Noah Davis will easily be the most likeable contestant on the show this season. Right when Davis walked into the room, all the judges fell in love with him, specifically Katy Perry. Perry and Davis had a connection by a word, "Wig" which is a familiar word of the LGBTQ and Stan community. Right when Davis said "Wig" to Perry, she immediately understood him, while the two other judges were lost and confused. Davis performed "Stay" by Rihanna which allowed him to show the power of his voice and the control he exerts over it. With that much talent, he will definitely be a contender for the live shows.

(4) Alyssa Rahgu

Alyssa Rahgu might just be the next vocalist of her generation. Rahgu sang "Almost is Never Enough" by Ariana Grande featuring Nathan Skyes. Rahgu nailed the song with her strong, clear voice. Though she appears to be young, her vocals came across as extremely mature. Rahgu is one to watch and maybe even someone to go all the way to the finale.

(5) Zach D’Onofrio

If you have a shortage of socks, you should give Zach D’Onofrio a call because he literally has a pair of socks for every day of the year. D’Onofrio surprised the judges with his high-pitched speaking voice because he sang with a rich tenor. He serenaded Katy Perry so much that she got up to dance with D’Onofrio, she even allowed herself to be dipped. D’Onofrio will 100% be one to keep an eye out for. So far, he seems like the underdog. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see him in the finale.

The new season of American Idol seems to have started off on the right note. ABC has brought back the original singing competition show that has brought us stars like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. Who do you think will be the next Idol winner?
