Artist Spotlight: VDP
BY BLENDED STAFF
The Vanguard Development Project, or VDP for short, is a music group consisting of young songwriters, producers, singers and MC's based in New York City. The group places a heavy emphasis on both artistic and personal development.
Having released 4 EP's, music videos, and a documentary, with an extensive network of supporters and contributors in both the educational and entertainment sectors, VDP gives aspiring artists access to professional opportunities for growth.
"No Excuses," VDP's most mainstream project to date, explores the most relevant genres of music from hip hop, afrobeat to europop. Upon the quickening arrival of the Christmas season, VDP decided to switch gears and release a few holiday tunes. At first, the idea was to do a few covers of timeless Christmas classics before deciding that it was a little clichè and overdone.
The group decided to write an original song and make it appealing and most memorable to people of all ages with a fun music video. With an infectious melody and a bounce, "Naughty or Nice" featuring Maz, Steph Reyes, Khem, and Shiann Fox, is simply a song born out of the joy of the season.
VDP has performed nationally at various festivals, conferences, and venues. Their past performances include: Live on Washington music festival in Michigan, the Whitney Museum re-opening, Global Action Project, GAP Foundation, Hilton Foundation, NYC Figment Festival, Berklee City Music Summit, Truth Be Told Film Festival, and the NYC Pride Parade. As a songwriting collective, VDP's music has secured placements on feature films, network television, documentaries, and online content for various companies.
Be sure to keep an eye out for VDP's upcoming projects. You can find more of VDP’s music on streaming platforms such as Apple Music, Spotify, Soundcloud, and more.
